The West Oberland range of mountains is less frequently travelled than the mountains to the south of the Rhone ; this makes this area generally much quieter. The ski tour is a real gem and has turned out to be many peoples favourite. It starts from the Col du Pillon / Diablerets ski area (just to the east of Lac Leman) and over 5 days zig zags its way over the chain of peaks to Kandersteg. Following the route below we will gain a summit each day of the tour which really adds to the sense achievement. All the mountain huts on route are very welcoming and set in beautiful locations.

Day 1 Saturday
This is the arrival day for the course meeting in Diablerets village in the evening, overnight here.

Day 2 Sunday
The ski tour begins with a warm up day in the Les Diablerets ski area and a ski ascent of Les Diablerets summit 3209m a nice easy peak with fantastic views across to Mt.Blanc and Lac Leman. We have a long off piste run back down to the valley, where we overnight in Diablerets. This day provides a good day to check out equipment get your ski legs back before we set off on the ski tour the next morning.

Day 3 Monday
We take the cable car up to the top of the Les Diablerets ski area 3209m from this point we have a long descent down the Glacier de Tsanfleuron to the col du Sanetsch. From here we ascend the Arête de L’Arpille to gain the summit of the Arpelistock 3035m. The ascent up the ridge provides fantastic views and is a beautiful route to the summit.  From this summit we have a 1000m descent to the Geltenhutte. The Gelten hut is situated under the magnificent high cliffs of the Wildhorn

Day 4 Tuesday
This day requires an early start as all days do. The route spirals its way up the mountain over 2 cols to the superb summit of the Wildhorn 3247m. This is the highest point on the ski tour and provides a magnificent panorama. From the summit we then have another 1000m descent down to the Wildhorn hut.

Day 5 Wednesday
The Schnidehorn 2937m slightly more difficult and may require you to carry your skis and perhaps some use of crampons, we climb it en route to the Wildstrubel hut. This day has two ascents and one descent.

Day 6 Thursday
We start the day with a short ski up to the strange summit of the Weisshorn, from here we traverse downhill across into the middle of the glacier de la plaine Morte. The ascent up the Wildstrubel provides another great line to the summit. The ascent, the views and the decent down to the Lammerenhutte are all 5 star. A fantastic day!

Day 7 Friday
From the Lammerenhutte we climb for just a couple of hours to the Roter Tot 2848m the final summit on the tour. The long descent down the valley to Kandersteg provides some great easy angle and slightly steeper ski pitches in spectacular settings sometimes under high cliffs. The final section sometimes requires a short walk to the road as the snow runs out. From here we return to Les Diablerets by train.

On Piste
You have had a good number of weeks skiing in recent years. You do not have a problem skiing the mountain all day (including the Blacks). At the end of the day you sometimes wish for a little more adventure.

Off Piste
This is your preferred environment and a rucksack is no longer a hindrance. In conditions of powder snow or breakable crust you have the necessary skills to ski in a safe and effective manner without becoming unduly tired. You can uphill and down hill kick turn.

Ski Touring
You have completed a level 1 tour or similar in the last few years. You know how to put skins on and have knowledge of how to use an avalanche transceiver. Your fitness level will allow you to be able to climb uphill for about 4 hours per day. We will generally be out on the hill for around 7hours per day.
