Chamonix to Zermatt - High level route

High Level Route Photos

Chamonix to Zermatt High Level route is one of the most famous high mountain routes in Western Europe.

The route follows a mountainous high level route over glaciers and high mountain passes, it will also drop into the valley twice to Champex / Verbier and Arolla to restock with food and more importantly get a shower and wash those dirty socks. The walking is not technically difficult and the route avoids any ground that is too steep for the guiding ratio of 1:6.

Along the route the scenery is fantastic and ever changing, the major peaks we will see along the way are Mt.Blanc, Grand Combin, Weisshorn and the Matterhorn.

Along the route we ascend a few easy summits like the Rosa Blanche, Pigne d' Arolla and the Tete Blanche, you will need to be in good physical shape as some of the days are quite long. We will usually get a early start in the morning so some of the afternoons you will have free to relax and sunbathe or sleep.

On most of the days we will be travelling on Glaciers at some point , this required the party to be roped together for safe travel across the crevassed terrain.
